WACCBIP DELTAS II Internship Programme for Graduates 2024/2025

Applications are now open for the 2024/2025 WACCBIP DELTAS II Internship Programme. The WACCBIP DELTAS II programme is a graduate internship programme for new graduates to work in an environment that supports and promotes the development of research leadership.

WACCBIP launched its second implementation of the DELTAS programme, having been selected as one of 14 leading science consortia to receive funding under phase two of the Developing Excellence in Leadership, Training, and Science in Africa programme (DELTAS Africa II). Speaking at the launch, Prof Gordon Awandare (Director, WACCBIP) highlighted WACCBIP’s intention to use deep research approaches to obtain a more thorough understanding of the disease mechanisms for some of the major infectious and non-communicable diseases affecting African populations.

The WACCBIP DELTAS II Programme will be implemented with partners at the institutional (West African Genetic Medicine Centre and Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research), regional (Medical Research Council unit, The Gambia, University of Liberia, University of Lagos and University of Cape Town), and international (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of Cambridge, Francis Crick Institute, UK, and Johns Hopkins University, USA).

As a Centre of Excellence for biomedical research, WACCBIP supports a wide range of research activities in conjunction with its international partners. The DELTAS II programme is supported by the Science for Africa Foundation (SFA) with funding from Wellcome and UK FCDO.

Eligibility

To apply for this programme, you must:

  1. Have completed undergraduate studies by July/August 2024 and registered for National Service
  2. Have majored in any of the Biological Sciences, Computer Science, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, English Communication, and Linguistics
  3. Be hardworking, highly motivated and interested in promoting scientific research

The successful Graduate Intern will be expected to:

  • Assist in research activities at WACCBIP
  • Contribute to the delivery of training programmes at WACCBIP
  • Participate in research conferences and workshops
  • Perform any other responsibilities assigned by the Director and/or immediate supervisor

The successful Graduate Intern will be supported with a monthly stipend as top-up to their National Service allowance.
