MultiChoice Reports Surge In DStv Stream Subscribers

MultiChoice recently unveiled its annual results for the year ended 31 March 2024, showing robust subscriber growth for DStv Stream. The company reported a significant increase in active users for DStv Stream following its rebranding from DStv Now in July 2023. Since the relaunch, the platform has seen a 139% surge in active users, with over 90% of them being new to the service.

In addition, MultiChoice introduced the Extra Stream feature, allowing users to stream DStv content simultaneously on up to two devices. This product, exclusively available on mobile devices, has garnered a 13% increase in subscribers since its launch. As part of this offering, pricing varies according to the primary package linked to the account, ranging from R99 to R29 per month.

Moreover, MultiChoice announced a streaming-only package for its DStv EasyView bouquet at US$ 2 per month, although this option does not support multiple streams. This came after the company decided to limit concurrent online streaming feeds to one device, a move that initially faced criticism from subscribers.

Despite the backlash, MultiChoice proceeded with the changes, prompting some subscribers to consider cancelling their subscriptions. The decision to limit streaming to one device at a time was met with disappointment from long-time DStv users. However, it’s worth noting that this is currently more stringent than the policies of other major streaming services.

In conclusion, MultiChoice’s DStv Stream has seen substantial growth in its subscriber base, along with the introduction of the Extra Stream offering and streaming-only packages. While some subscribers have raised concerns about the limitations on concurrent streaming, the company remains committed to providing a comprehensive and competitive streaming experience.
